S. dis trict court under a $10,000.00 bond by U. S. Commissioner Eugene Taylor Thursday on charges of making threats against Presi dent Roosevelt. | The defense entered a plea of j not -guilty but offered no testi mony at the preliminary hearing. Joseph E. Taylor of Lynn tes } titled he heard Pack declare one day at the sawmill where he was working: “I’d give $1,000 to blow the whole damned works plumb into hell.” He said the defendant was referring to President Roose velt and congress. He also quoted Pack as alleged ly having said he’d “rather be under Hitler as under that damned ! crowd.” William F. Pack, of near Tryon, the other witness, testified he had heard the man make similar state ments.—Asheville Times. Army Ground Observers Demonstrate Air Warnings Lieutenant A. W. Goldstein, Sgt. F. B. Sisk and Cpl. E. E. Quirk of the Ground Observer Section of the Columbia Filter Center, Columbia, S. C., gave an interest ; ing outline of the operation of the war air warning system, Fri day night at a meeting held in the director’s room of the Tryon Bank & Trust Co., presided over by County Air Warning Director Julian B.
